Shajara Tayyiba
Narrated by ibn Omar (radiyAllahu anhu): The Prophet (S) said, “Amongst the trees, there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim. Tell me the name of that tree.” Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas. And I thought of the date-palm tree but felt too shy to answer. The others then asked, “What is that tree, O Allah’s Apostle?” He replied, “It is the date-palm tree.”
- (Sahih Bukhari, Book of Knowledge, Hadith #58)
Roots: Lets start with the roots. Shajara Tayyiba’s roots are firm, stable, and unwavering. Strong, deeply rooted Iman (faith), Ilm (knowledge), and Amal (action) are key components in a Believer.
Branches: Its branches reach high into the heavens. Just like the khair (good) a believer spreads far and wide.
Leaves & Fruits: Its leaves do not fall all year around and it’s fruit benefits all around it. Just like a Muslim brings benefit all the time, no matter where he is and at any given time to all around him.
